Musician/Singer/Songwriter Franz Kahale continues to reinvent himself as he enters this juncture of his musical career. His rustic delivery brings an edgy contrast to the music as it lures you along for the ride.
Born in Honolulu and now living on the Big Island of Hawaii, Franz has played in countless American cities, the Maui and Honolulu club circuit and throughout Japan for several years. He has since recorded four albums consisting largely of original songs that explore the many genres that influence him.
Members of the Beach Boys, Weather Report, The George Benson Band, The Frank Zappa Band, Genesis, Oingo Boingo and Kalapana sat in on many of the recording sessions. Meanwhile local groups such as Na Leo, Kahikina, Kainani Kahaunaele and Ernie Cruz Jr. have covered his music; further exposing him as a versatile songwriter.
His latest project, a 5 song compilation entitled Poi Dog, puts “live” performance at its core. Virtually unedited and minimally effected, this organic collection of sound features his raw musicality and is truly an innovative work.
Rugged guitars coupled with a tapestry of native percussion create an earthy stew that boils beneath this artist’s edgy and seasoned vocal. His honest approach to songwriting displays a powerful range of scope through his enigmatic poetry and the uncanny ability to weave it through a driving chordal movement. The result is a bold and punchy sound that gives rise to his performances throughout. His cover songs are not merely re-done, they are creatively transformed to become his own that presents a fresh perspective to the music that he loves.
